Traditionally, commercial buildings and complexes are equipped with conventional sensors that work with building management systems (BMS).  These solutions are often costly and complex to implement and maintain, since most of the sensors are connected back to the BMS using cables.  These products are also generally proprietary in design and sensors not certified by the same manufacturer can hardly be considered.  This results in sometimes multiple BMS's that do not talk with each other.  With the advent of IoT technology, it becomes increasingly feasible and cost effective to install a sensors network to materialize the Smart Building concept.
